What patients say about us is a powerful tool in measuring our performance. It let’s us know how we’re doing and it highlights areas where Geisinger can improve. You can see from the information on these pages that we rank above the national average in various inpatient and outpatient visits. We measure patient satisfaction by asking a company that’s unaffiliated with Geisinger — Press Ganey Associates, Inc — to conduct mail surveys of random samples of our patients throughout the year. Not every Geisinger patient is surveyed and about 80,000 surveys are completed annually. The surveys ask patients to rate their happiness with every element of a visit, including the admission process, room, meals, attention to privacy and concern by the clinical staff. A score of 5 is “very good”, while a score of 1 is “very poor.” Once received and tallied, Geisinger’s overall patient satisfaction scores are compared to hospitals and providers of similar size. |
